Co-Teaching

Co-teaching is the instructional arrangement in which a general education teacher and a specialized teacher deliver core instruction to a group of students in a single physical space. It requires the educators to make joint instructional decisions and share responsibilities and accountability for student learning.

In our first grade math classes, we use a "guided math" model. Students work in small, flexible goups with the classroom teacher, myself (a math specialist) and independently on a daily basis. The work is differentiated to meet the needs of students. We are able to correct misconceptions and challenge students in our small groups. We have so much fun! My favorite days are the ones when students will say, "Wait, we forgot to do math!" In reality, they were having so much fun, they didn't realize they were learning.
