My name is Ms. Sellin and I am thrilled to be the Librarian/Media Specialist at Lucy Laney for the 2016-17 school year. This year, I am excited to be teaching grades High 5 through 5th Grade. My goal for students in the media center is to prepare them to access various forms of media, have an appreciation of literature and be effective users of technology. The media center at Lucy Laney is filled with many great books and student technology. It is a safe and positive learning environment where everyone is welcome!
I have two sons ages 5 and 7 and they already love their neighborhood library. Growing up in South Dakota and Minnesota my parents brought us to the library on a weekly basis. This is why I have always loved reading and being in the library. I graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with my K-6 elementary degree. I then went on to teach kindergarten and 2nd grade. After this, I received my Master's degree in Library Media Education and now am the media specialist at Lucy Laney.
One of the skills learned this year in media is coding. Coding is computer programing or simply learning how to give the computer commands. In the bigger picture, it is what creates computer software, apps and websites. A few of the benefits of learning to code are increased problem solving skills and becoming more computer literate. A coding website that we have used during media class is code.org If you would like to learn more about this skill, please check this website out or you can contact Ms. Sellin.
